About Don:
Don started in amateur radio when at school, getting his licence in 1961 at the age of 17.
Initially he was interested in Top Band DX, but from the late-'60s onwards interests became much broader. Whilst at University, Don was President of the Imperial College Radio Society and organised his first "DXpedition" to the Scilly Isles.
In the early '70s, Don was Chairman of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society, and later, Chairman of BARTG, the British Amateur Teledata group. More recently, he has been President of the Radio Society of Great Britain and is currently Secretary of the International Amateur Radio Union, Region 1.
He has been deputy leader of the 9M0C, D68C and 3B9C expeditions and now joint leader of the 3B7 expedition.
Don operates on CW, SSB, datamodes and SSTV from 1.8 to 30 MHz, and operates regularly in the major HF contests under his own call or as G5W.
Don has retired from life in a major multinational corporation, (although still doing some consultancy) and lives with Hilary in the South Shropshire hills.
