About Paul:
Paul was first licensed at the age of 17 in 1961, and has CW
contest certificates starting from 1962. After the usual break
for college, career and family, he got his EI call in 1978. He
prefers mixed-mode operation on 10m and has been placed 1st,
2nd and 3rd in the ARRL 10m Contest (SO LP Mixed) in recent
years.
Paul is a committee member of IRTS (Irish Radio Transmitters
Society) and served as President from 1997-2000. He represented
the Society at IARU R1 conferences in 1996 and 1999 and lobbied
for the retention of the CW requirement (that didn’t work), and
continues to lobby against inappropriate integration of Amateur
Radio and the internet.
He is self-employed in the IT industry, and is the author of
SD contest logger. His wife, Pat, teaches Desktop Publishing.
His elder son, Conor, is a graphic artist with Tantalus in
Melbourne, and Dermot is a landscape photographer based in
Calgary, Alberta.
